According to a news release by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, a teenager was struck by a vehicle last night during an accident investigation.

At 6:08 p.m. an accident occurred in the area of State Highway 73 near County Rd. Z in the Town of Saratoga when a vehicle hit a deer. During the investigation, an approaching vehicle slowed for the accident scene and began to pull over.

As the vehicle pulled over to the side of the road it struck a 13-year-old Nekoosa male who was standing on the side of the same road. The teenager was soon transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield via Spirit Air and is currently listed in stable condition.

The driver, a 25-year-old Nekoosa woman, was transported to Aspirus Riverview for possible injuries sustained during the accident. While the accident is currently under investigation, alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Assisting the Wood County Sheriff’s Department was the Nekoosa Police Department, Nekoosa Ambulance, Nekoosa Fire Department, Nekoosa First Responders, Spirit of Marshfield, and Wood County Rescue.
