City officials approved a contract to provide ambulance services to Port Edwards and Saratoga on Tuesday night.

A special common council meeting was held, and after closed session, members decided on an agreement with the two municipalities. The contract, slated to go into effect on Jan. 1, will be for three years with the option to extend it an additional four years.

“It’s a win-win for both municipalities,” said Mayor Zach Vruwink. “We’ve got the available staff, we’ve got the available equipment, and we can provide a great service.”

The move will actually save the city money, as no additional hiring will be needed to provide the emergency services to Port Edwards and Saratoga. After the numbers were crunched, the city will end up saving approximately $10 dollars per capita.

The City of Nekoosa is currently providing EMS services to these municipalities.
