Snow Emergency Declared, Removal Plan
For the City Times
Effective at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, a snow emergency has been called by the city. There will be no parking allowed on city streets until 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning.
According to Public Works Director Joe Terry, a tentative plan for snow removal has been laid out and can be read below:
The amount of snow forecasted will likely result in the roads needing to be plowed twice to keep streets passable and present reasonably safe winter driving conditions. Paul has met with the police department to discuss calling a snow emergency for 7:00 am, Saturday morning and ending 9:00 am Sunday morning.
Crews will be working on clearing connecting highways and arterials during the early morning hours on Saturday and it’ll likely be between 7:00 and 9:00 am before we’re clearing residential streets. We anticipate performing some general maintenance to keep the connecting highways clear, then will return on Sunday morning to start over and do a final cleanup. Snow would then be removed from the downtown areas on Monday and hauled out in the days thereafter.
Of course, this plan all depends on the actual event, but I wanted to let you know what our plans are at this time.
Please be safe out there, and especially if you are leaving town this weekend as the extremely cold conditions can be deadly if you find yourself stuck somewhere for any period of time.
