The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings continued their first place success with two wins over division rivals on Monday and Tuesday.

In a defensive affair against the Steel County Blades on Monday from the Leaf Centre in Illinois, the Riverkings pulled out a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Blades. Late in the first period, leading Riverkings scorer Reed Kaiser sent in a goal for Wis. Rapids, which would end up to be the only goal in the game. Ryan Mantz came up with the assist. Riverkings’ goalie Erik Schuette made eight saves on the night, securing his 12th win of the season.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Riverkings would route the River Falls Renegades 5-2 with Adam Peterson leading the way with two goals in the first period. Kevin Van Bokkelen, Reed Kaiser, and Ryan Mantz would contribute to the five goal performance, each knocking pucks into the back of the net.

Alti Valdimarrson picked up his third straight win in goal, bringing the Riverkings’ record to 22-4 on the year. Wis. Rapids will have two games on Wednesday versus the Forest Lake Lakers and the Detroit Fighting Irish.

The Riverkings return home on Jan. 7 to face the River Falls Renegades after the holiday break.
