In the best interest of the city and its residents, a department now has a new name.

The Planning & Economic Development Department has changed its name to the Community Development Department. The Community Development name is seen as more encompassing to all of the duties that come with the department, including zone enforcement, building, and economic planning.

“Traditionally this department has gone through a wide variety of names and job duties,” said Director of Planning & Economic Development Adam Tegan. “It’s been anything from building and inspections to code enforcement.”

The name change takes effect as soon as it receives likely approval from city council.

“There’s a lot of confusion when we talk about the department in the public realm, so I think it’s easier for everybody.” said Mayor Zach Vruwink.
