Riverkings Pick Up Two Wins Against Chicago
By Joe Bachman
The Riverkings continued their winning ways as they picked up wins over the Chicago Cougars this weekend.
Held at the Leaf Centre, in Ill., the first place Riverkings kept their dominance with a 3-0 win on Saturday night. Kevin Van Bokkelen, Dylan Torres, and Ryan Mantz contributed to the victory by each knocking in a goal. Mantz also picked up two assists on the night.
Goalie Erik Schuette had 21 saves on the night en route to an impressive road win.
On Sunday night, the same amount of goals were scored, with mostly the same results. The Riverkings held their own again with a 2-1 win against the Cougars.
Two second period goals by Ryan Mantz and Michael Kelley would become the game winners, as they carried their lead into the third period. Goalie Erik Schuette stayed hot in goal, as he saved 29 out of 30 shots on goal to carry the Riverkings to another victory. This brings the Riverkings to 32-7 on the year.
Tonight, the Riverkings play in the Heritage Classic against Chicago in an outdoor hockey rink in Rosemont, Ill. You can catch the action live on hockeytv.com.
