Riverkings Take Heritage Classic in Goalie’s Dual
By Joe Bachman
Your Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings stayed perfect this weekend.
After picking up Saturday and Sunday wins against Chicago, they continued their success in the Heritage Classic, picking up a 1-0 victory over Chicago on Monday. Held at an outside rink at MB Financial Park in Rosemont, Ill., the game would turn into a classic goalie’s dual.
With 7:33 remaining in the first period, Andrew Demacopoulos found the back of the net with assists by James Stiles and Dylan Torres to put the Riverkings up 1-0. This goal would be all that goalie Erik Scheuette needed to help secure a victory.
The game saw a total of 55 saves between the two goalies, with Schuette picking up 25 of those saves. Schuette leads the lead in shutouts with eight on the year.
The Riverkings have won nine out of their last 10 games, with this being their sixth straight win. With this victory, they officially clinch a playoff birth, with a 33-7 record on the year.
They hit River Falls this weekend before finishing their season at home on Feb. 18.
