Port Edwards Teacher Receives Accounting Grant for Student Learning

John Edwards High School teacher Gary Spencer has received a 2017 Accounting Career Awareness Grant from the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Educational Foundation, Inc.
Teachers who attended the fall 2016 WICPA High School Educators Symposium received the opportunity to write proposals about why they should receive funding from the foundation. Spencer is one of 40 teachers to receive a grant.
Spencer will use the grant to take his students on a field trip to Lambeau Field to learn about accounting in the professional sports industry. They will meet with a small CPA business owner in the Green Bay area, so that students can gain perspective of small business accounting.
“The WICPA does a great job in giving students the opportunity to explore a variety of accounting careers through their grant.” said Spencer.
This is the second grant secured through WICPA, the first of which was in 2015, where students visited three businesses in the Madison area.
