An MVP (Most Valuable Player) award emphasizes the impact of sports on the tourism industry, local economy and the community. According to the commission, the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings believe in “building hockey up and down the river,” and their program focuses on the development of players on and off the ice, as well as the advancement of players to the next level.

“Over the past three years they have truly shown they are invested in the Wisconsin Rapids community,” said a commission spokesperson in a press release.

The Riverkings finished third in nationals in the United States Premier Hockey League Elite Division Championship. They also captured the Midwest Elite Division crown with a 37-4-3 record.
