A special city council meeting was held Monday night to approve two major components of a road construction project on 1st St. for the spring.

“One of the components is horizontal boring for getting the pipe underneath the Quinnell Creek storm sewer for that directional boring contract,” said Public Works Director Joe Terry. “The other is instrumentation and electric control contract for the lift station at Strawberry Lane.”

Horizontal boring is a method used to install underground pipelines with a drilling-rig. The council approved the two lowest bids for the two projects, which will run from 1st St. North and Poplar.

MasTec North American, out of Shevlin, Minn., won the horizontal boring contract in the amount of $35,207. Eagle Construction Company, out of Wisconsin Rapids, won the instrumentation and electric control contract for the amount of $57,960.
