WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A local man faces felony burglary charges after allegedly stealing a television from an unlocked home.
According to police reports, on March 17 an officer was dispatched to a residence on 11th St. North for a report of a burglary. A neighbor witnessed two men enter the home, one of which was later identified as Jason Brown.
Once the victims arrived home after the theft, they reported a missing television and a blu-ray player. Police spoke to the neighbor who recorded the van used in the burglary, and reviewed the footage to identify the owner.
According to the complainant, she suspected Brown of taking the items, as she had let him store items at her residence in the past, though he had taken them a long time ago. The victim told police that she often leaves her door unlocked, and suspected that was how Brown gained access to the home.
Police later tracked down the owner of the van who stated that Brown asked for a ride to pick up items from a residence, which he told him was his.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 12 years and six months imprisonment, and up to $25,000 in fines. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 8.
