WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Sometimes it’s best to lead by example, and that’s no different when it comes to the Mayor and the love of reading.
Mayor Vruwink visited the Boys & Girls club on Tuesday afternoon to read to club kids. The choice of literature — the classic Caldecott Honor Book, Dr. Seuss’s Bartholomew and the Oobleck.
“At the club one of our priority outcomes is academic success,” said Boys & Girls Club Development Director Lindsey Wilson. “So today we focused on challenging kids to achieve academically by having Mayor Vruwink visit the Club to read Bartholomew and the Oobleck.”
Through the power of reading, enthusiasm was met on both ends.
“A visit to the Club always serves as a reminder of the need and importance of positive, safe places for our youth – especially when school is out,” said Mayor Vruwink. “These kids are our future leaders – I am proud to engage with them as Great Futures do start at the Boys & Girls Club.”
The Boys & Girls Club is located at 501 17th St. South.
