Police Find Suspicious Package Outside Office Building

City Times Staff
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Marathon County bomb technicians were called to Wisconsin Rapids in response to a suspicious looking package last night.
At approximately 8:40 p.m., police responded to a complaint made of a suspicious looking package at the Wisconsin State office building, located at 1681 2nd Ave. South. A passerby reported what looked like a bomb-like package sitting on the lawn outside of entrance of the offices.
Bomb technicians with Marathon County Sheriff’s Department were called down to investigate the matter further, and a remote X-ray of the package was taken through the wrapping to no avail. Two robotic vehicles were then deployed to move the package to the middle of a parking lot to unwrap it, only to find that it had been a brick that had been well wrapped.
According to police, the unique wrapping of the brick, as well as a string hanging out of the wrapper made the package look suspicious, as well as the placement in front of the entrance. This matter is still under investigation.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to call 715-423-4444, or Wood County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-325-7867.
