Local Veterans May Events and Activities

Here is a rundown of veterans events and activities for May —

May 6
-Highway Cleanup — 10:00 a.m.

May 10
-The movie “Jeremiah Johnson” starring Robert Redford will be shown at the Heroes Cafe, located inside Woodlands Church, 1000 E. Riverview Expressway.

May 11
-Vietnam Veterans of America will be holding their monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 2534

May 13
-A Veterans Brat Fry will be held at Quality Foods IGA on Baker St.

May 18
-A Veterans of Foreign Wars will be holding their monthly meeting at 7:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 2534, located at 2711 Reddin Rd.

May 19
-Flags will be placed on veteran’s graves at Restlawn cemetery starting at 10:00 a.m.

May 20
-Saturday, VVA Chapter 101 & VFW Post 2534 will have a picnic for members and significant others only of the VVA Chapter and VFW Post 2534 with free food & cash bar at VFW Post 2534 on Reddin Road.

May 21
-King Veterans Home will have an open house from 10 am to 2:30 pm.

May 22
-Central Wisconsin Airport will host a Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Flights are also scheduled on September 11 and October 9. Organizations planning to attend the return flight welcome are asked to be at CWA by 8:30 p.m.

May 22
-Monday, Culver’s in Wisconsin Rapids will donate 10 percent of all sales to the Honor Flight. Veterans groups are invited to serve as greeters.

May 26

-There will be a Wood County Veterans Memorial ceremony at the Wood County Courthouse at 11:00 a.m. All color Guards are invited and are encouraged to arrive a half hour before the ceremony.

May 29
-A Memorial Day program will take place at Forest Hill Mausoleum on at 11 am. Veterans’ organizations bearing their colors are encouraged to be there by 10:30 am. American Legion Post 9, 140 Love St will have a brat fry open to the public after the Memorial Day program.

May 30
-Tuesday, There will be a blood drive at VFW Post 2534 starting at 11:30 am until 4:30 pm. Donate blood in honor of “those who served our country” Schedule your appointment at: www.bcw.edu/vfw2534 or call 1-877-232-4376.
