WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Mayor Zach Vruwink has just released a statement regarding the strong odor coming from West Industrial Park over the past couple of days.

“Over the past two days numerous complaints have been filed about the very strong odor emanating from the dehydration facility located in the West Industrial Park. We take these complaints very seriously, as we do the health, safety, and welfare of our residents. In working with our Building Inspection staff, we’ve learned the plant has not been operating in a normal fashion recently, resulting in the creation of a public nuisance. As such, the company has received an order to immediately correct the problem and they have also received a citation. 

We will continue closely monitoring the situation to make sure they are complying with our directives. While we appreciate the company’s investment, they must continue to operate in compliance with city ordinances.”

The strong odor has affected most residents living in the area of 29th Ave. South within half a mile of the industrial park, however, some complaints of the odor have come as far as Port Edwards.
