WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Fred Ellis like to sing. He jokes that he is not very good, but that he’s loud. To the contrary, Fred is very good, too.

Plover resident Fred Ellis leads sing-alongs of old time songs each month at various assisted living facilities in the area and the veterans’ home in King. Ellis visits Hilltop of Pepper and Alpine Terrace to lead many residents in song.

Ellis was nominated to be recognized at this years’ Volunteer Recognition Breakfast, held at the Hotel Mead on April 20. Ellis, and his wife Marilyn, were guests of Hilltop at the event.

Afterwards, Ellis led the crowd in a sing-along of “You are my Sunshine”, but he wasn’t done, yet. United Way CEO Tari Jahns invited Ellis to close out the event by singing the “Senior Citizens’ Shuffle”.
