An hour rain delay before the game doesn’t stop Rafters

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – After a rain delay that pushed first pitch back an hour, the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters dominated the Madison Mallards from start to finish at Witter Field on Sunday, securing their 10th straight win and moving to 12-1 on the year.

After extra-inning heroics last night, Dustin Woodcock paced the Rafters scoring attack, driving in three runs on the afternoon. Nic Motley added a two RBI double to lift the Rafters over the Mallards, 7-2. With the loss, Madison falls to 5-8 on the year, seven games back from the first place Rafters.

Dustin Woodcock picked up right where he left off after his monster night against Kalamazoo and a walk-off single in the 12th. In the bottom of the first, Woodcock delivered the first run of the matinee with a sacrifice fly to deep center, scoring Nick Owens from third.

Madison first baseman Angel Camacho tied the game at one in the top of the third, doubling down the left field line and scoring Jalen Harrison from third. The Mallards would take the lead in the fourth, with Harrison delivering a sacrifice fly to left field to score Brock Weimer.

In the bottom of the fourth it was Woodcock time again, with a solo blast to right field to even the score at two. Woodcock’s second blast of the year was the Rafters first hit of the afternoon. The Rafters took the lead in the fifth on a Bryson Stott double to score Jake Guenther from second.

Wisconsin Rapids extended its lead in the seventh, scoring four runs on two hits. Woodcock drove in his third on the night with a bases-loaded walk, scoring Nick Anderson. Ryan Stekl plated another Rafter with a fielder’s choice, and the following batter Motley put one off the Advanced Disposal sign in center field. The double pushed two more across in the frame and open the lead to 7-2.

Starter Jack Eagan earned the win to move to 3-0 on the season, tossing five innings and striking out six. Cameron Busby shined in relief for Wisconsin Rapids, with three scoreless innings, striking out three.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The Flying Houndz Frizbee Trick Dog Show will be performing on Aspirus Riverview Hospital and Clinics Night.
