UPDATE: Names Released in Fatal Saratoga Motorcycle Crash

SARATOGA — A fatal motorcycle crash took the life of 56-year-old Neenah man, and seriously injured a 65-year-old Neenah woman on Saturday night.

According to a Wood County Sheriff’s Department news release, at 6:39 p.m. a one-vehicle crash was reported in the area of State Highway 73 in the Township of Saratoga. A motorcycle carrying two individuals had been traveling southbound on State Highway 73 and struck a deer causing the cycle to overturn multiple times.

Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the motorcycle. The passenger, now identified as Sharron Hammes, sustained multiple injuries and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

The driver of the motorcycle, now identified as Michael Hammes, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the driver and passenger had been wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Assisting the Wood County Sheriff’s Department was the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, the Grand Rapids Fire Department, Saratoga First Responders, and the Wood County Coroner.
