Stott’s go-ahead RBI in the seventh pushes Rafters to victory

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A pitcher’s duel between Wisconsin Rapids (46-18, 19-9) and Kenosha (33-31, 11-18) went in favor of the Rafters, 2-1 at Witter Field on Saturday.

Dustin Woodcock blasted a solo shot in the second; his ninth of the year while Bryson Stott drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to put the Rafters past the Kingfish. The pitching staff of Wisconsin Rapids limited Kenosha to one run on four hits while neither team committed an error.

Two of the top three RBI leaders in the league were in action Saturday evening, and both players got their teams on the scoreboard. Kenosha’s Derek Bangert sits at third on the RBI leaderboard and drove in the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to center, plating Mike Madej in the first.

To counter, Woodcock drove in his 56th run of the year, good for second in the NWL with a solo home run in the second to tie the game.

Stott drove in what would be the winning run in the seventh on a double to right field. Nick Anderson singled to lead off the inning, and scored from first base and Stott’s hit. Stott has recorded a hit in 44 of the last 46 games and has a current streak of 21 straight games with a hit.

Jack Eagan threw five strong innings to start the game, and the duo of Mason McReaken (4-1) and Layne Henderson finished the game with four scoreless. McReaken earned the victory and Henderson recorded his league-leading 17th save of the year in as many tried. Jonathan Maday (0-1) surrendered the go-ahead run in the seventh and was tagged with the loss.

The teams will conclude the season series Sunday from Witter Field, with first pitch set for 4:05 p.m. Incourage presents an iRosco Bobblehead Giveaway, the world’s first smart bobble head. Pregame coverage begins at 3:50 p.m. on AM 1320 WFHR and WFHR.com, the Rafters Radio Network.
