With Lincoln on a two-game win streak and control of first place in the Valley West Conference, and Assumption evening their record to 3-3, it’s a good time for Wisconsin Rapids football.

Red Raiders Look for Three Straight

After Nash Coombs busted out with over 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score to defeat Marshfield, the Red Raiders now have control of first place in the Valley West Conference. After dropping their fifth game of the season to SPASH last week by double digits, the 1-5 Wausau West Warriors will play host to Lincoln’s last road game before coming home in October.

Lincoln is currently on a two game winning streak, and has put up 90 points in those two contests. A win in Wausau would put them at 5-2 headed into their matchup against SPASH on Oct. 6. With the dual threat running attack of Nash Coombs and Isaac Pelot, as well as the consistent play of Jacob Mancol and Isaiah Westfall, this Lincoln team looks to be a challenge for the Warriors this Friday.

Royals Eye Up Winning Record

Assumption has had quite a see-saw year so far, and with quarterback Jake Sullivan out due to injury, it’s been a literal season of ups and downs. However, with a big win last week against Gilman, Assumption looks to jump to a winning 4-3 record as they take on the 1-5 Greenwood this week. Greenwood dropped their game last week to first place Abbotsford 56-20, and will host the Royals on Friday night.

However, the consistent play of Teddy Ashbeck and Cole Statz will prove to be a hard combination to stop for the Indians, as the Royals look to put more points on the board, along with their traditional tough defense.

Nekoosa Looks to Bounce Back in Wautoma

After a tough loss last week to Mauston, the Papermakers look to improve their 2-4 record as they travel to Wautoma to play the 5-2 Hornets. Kyle Olson was slowed last week, but will hope to rebound against a Wautoma team who didn’t allow a point last week to Westfield. Nekoosa will lean on the fierce running attack of Dylan Bills and Trent Waltenburg in their keys for victory.

Kickoff for this game is at 7:00 p.m.
