WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A Lincoln High student was selected as a national semifinalist last month through the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Senior Zachary Wendt was one of 16,000 students selected nationwide in the 63rd annual scholarship program. He will compete with others for 7,500 scholarships totaling $32 million dollars that will be offered next spring. According to a press release by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), students must fulfill certain requirements to advance to the finals.

“About 90 percent of the finalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.”

NMSC was established in 1955 and is a non-profit organization that includes support form over 400 businesses to help honor the nation’s scholastic champions. Zachary’s proud parents are Brian and Lisa Wendt.
