WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Officials from the Wood County Drug Force are inviting all residents to a special presentation that will delve into common hiding places in bedrooms for those with substance abuse problems.
Your Choice to Live: A Family’s Journey from Addiction will take place on Nov. 13 at Crossview Church, 1000 E. Riverview Expressway, at 5:00 p.m.
There will be two chances to take valuable information with you; the first of which is a tour of a mock bedroom that will identify items often associated with drug use and common hiding places. A few hours later, there will be a dinner, followed by a presentation where attendees will hear from the Lybert family, their struggles living with someone with a substance use disorder.
“The Lybert Family has a compelling story to share with anyone who has children. They never expected their family to be affected by substance use, and their story seems to be all too common,” said Ashley Normington Health Promotion and Communication Specialist for the Wood Co. Health Department. “Their hope is to not only reach those families who are currently struggling with addiction, but to reach other families with the message that it could happen to anyone.”
Presentations are free and the evening presentation (5:30-7:30 p.m.) will include dinner and childcare. The Wake Up Call bedroom tour is age appropriate for those over 21 as requested by the presenters. Registration for the presentation is due by Tuesday, Nov. 7.
“The Wake Up Call brings to attention those items you may see in your child’s bedroom every day and think nothing of. How many parents would know to check a soda can or water bottle to make sure it’s not a disguised storage compartment for drugs?” said Normington. “This is a great presentation for parents, grandparents, educators, and anyone who interacts regularly with youth.”
