Chamber Chorale

For the City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Central Chamber Chorale will perform choral music selected by the new Director, Dr. Richard Brunson, to celebrate music.

The first half of the program features songs about music from Handel and Schubert to a choral arrangement of the ever popular “Sound of Music.” The compelling folk song, “How Can I Keep from Singing?”, features the beautiful soprano solo of Emily McIntee. Modern composer, Dan Forrest’s “Alway Something Sings” features new Chorale soprano, Tara Bhat.

The second half of the program begins with “Serenade to Music” by Ralph Vaughan Williams based on text from Shakespeare with choral singing interspersed with solos.

Piano, woodwinds and percussion accompany the Chorale to culminate the program with “Season Songs” by Mack Wilberg. Each movement uses text from the four main events of the liturgical year.

The concert in Wisconsin Rapids is at the First Congregational Church, 311 2nd St. South, on Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. There are also performances in Marshfield at First Presbyterian Church, 200 S. Lincoln, on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 12 at 3:00 p.m. and in Abbotsford at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 400 N. 2nd Ave. on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The concerts are open to the public without charge. The Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Richard Brunson, Associate Professor of Music at UW-Marshfield/Wood County, is in its 47th season. Mika Brunson, Lecturer of Music at the campus, is the Chorale’s accompanist.

The concert is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the state of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the arts and by the generous support of members of the community.
