Last month, a representative from Gorman & Co. met with local business owners and city officials to discuss the future of the area. While it has been initially agreed that part of the space will include up to 40 housing units, there is still the decision on what to do with the retail side of the property.

“We’re testing this idea of a market,” said Mayor Zach Vruwink to the many in attendance. “I think there’s some elements of the future ‘Local on 1st’ that are similar that what might be envisioned for that property.”

‘Local on 1st’ is a new store opening up inside of Karen’s Wines & Steins that will feature products by local businesses, and will open on Nov. 22. The project could lead in such a direction, creating an even bigger platform for local and state businesses to thrive in what would be a newly constructed facility.

Community Development Director Adam Tegan was also on hand to answer questions for those in attendance.
