Riverkings Route Cougars at Home

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — New Riverking Jacob Gaydos would have two goals on the night in a blowout win over rivals Chicago Cougars on Friday night.
Behind the support of the largest crowd of the season the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings skated to a 6-1 victory over the Chicago Cougars. It was all Riverkings early and often they notched four unanswered goals in the first period.
Kyle McCauley got things started a little over three minutes into the game as he found the back of the net with helpers from Dylan Nurse and Collin Moore. With the Cougars in the box for a holding penalty the Riverkings converted on the Power Play to make it 2-0 as Alexander Mavrogaiannis lit the lamp with assists from Austyn Quarters and Jacob Gaydos. Playing in his first game as a Riverking Zach Curry found paydirt as he buried to make it 3-0 with helpers coming from his line mates Jesse Edwards and Tristen Hillebert.
With the first period coming to a close and the Cougars in the sin bin for cross checking the Riverkings, the Power-Play struck again as Jacob Gaydos made it 4-0 with helpers coming from Austyn Quarters and Adam Peterson. After a scoreless second period the Cougars ended Eric Schuette’s shutout bid as they scored early in the third to make it 4-1. Once again the Riverkings Power-Play unit struck as Matyas Kacirek found the back of the net off of feeds from Ryan Mantz and Brett Delaat to make it 5-1.
Rounding out the the scoring for the Riverkings and scoring his second of the game to make it 6-1 was defensemen Jacob Gaydos scored with Adam Peterson and Alexander Mavrogaiannis picking up the assists. Overall, the Riverkings went 3-5 on the Power-Play.
Goalie Eric Schuette picked up the win as he notched 18 saves on the night and helped the Riverkings improve to 14-6. The Riverkings large crowd was very helpful in helping Toys for Tots as the players and fans helped collect over $500 worth of toys at the gate.
The Riverkings return home next weekend December 8th and 9th as they take on division foe the Ironwood Fighting Yoopers (puck drops at 7:30pm both nights)
