Riverkings Complete Weekend Sweep of Fighting Yoopers

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Riverkings extended their winning streak to four games after outscoring the Ironwood Fighting Yoopers 17-3 in this weekend’s games.
On Friday night goals by Xander Marvogiannis, Jacob Gaydos, Jesse Edwards, and Austyn Quarters, who put up the first goal of the night, all contributed to jump out to a 4-0 lead. They would hold onto this lead despite two Yoopers goals to finish them off by a final score of 6-2.
Goalie Parker Rutherford slapped away 17 out of 19 shots on goal for the night.
On Saturday night, the Riverkings completed the weekend sweep of the Fighting Yoopers coming away with an 11-1 victory to improve to 16-6 on the season.
The 11-goal burst started early as just over a minute into the game Austyn Quarters buried the first goal of the game with assists from Xander Marvogiannis and Adam Peterson. The Yoopers answered back to even the score at 1-1 before the Riverkings scored 10 unanswered.
Rounding out the first period scoring the eventual game winning goal Adam Peterson found the back of the net with helpers from Austyn Quarters and Tommy McManus. The Riverkings special teams opened the scoring in the second period with a Power-Play goal coming from Jacob Gaydos, with feeds from Ryan Mantz and Brett Delaat.
Gaydos buried his second of the game also on the Power-Play to make it 4-1 Mantz and Matyas Kacirek picked up the assists. Cole Creger scored the Riverkings fifth goal with helpers coming from Gaydos and DeLaat. Later in the second, Quarters picked up his second goal of the game to make it 6-1. Marvogiannis and Delaat picked up the assists.
A little over two minutes later the Riverkings scored their seventh goal of the night as Creger scored his second of the game with helpers coming from Marvogiannis and Delaat.
The third period started how the second period ended, as Adam Peterson scored his second of the game just over a minute into the period to make it 8-1. Peterson completed his hat trick campaign to make it 9-1 as Gaydos and DeLaat picked up the assists. The Riverkings entered double digits on the scoreboard as Zach Curry made it 10-1 scoring an unassisted goal. With Peterson already having three goals on the night, Cole Creger notched a hat trick as well as he completed the scoring with goaltender Dom Paciocco grabbing the assist to make the final 11-1.
Paciocco picked up the win in between the pipes making 20 saves on the night.
The Riverkings travel to Coon Rapids, Minn. for a two game set versus the first place Blue Ox this coming weekend.
