PORT EDWARDS — The public is welcome to a series of paintings on display featuring pieces by Appleton native, Lenny Nagler. and ceramics by Richard Milheiser from Eau Claire.

Lenny Nagler is a self-taught painter living in Appleton.

“I learn from my successes and failures”. said Nagler.

Richard Milheiser

The Milwaukee Shepherd Express ”Edward Hopper and Wassily Kandinsky are referenced…” in Mr. Nagler’s paintings. The Shepherd continues “There is a keenly Impressionistic sensibility which over time deepens into stronger hues and defined contours” Bright, Fauve-like (conflicting hues ) on a black ground create vivid compositions. Finally, “ the layered nature of the work is interesting and enjoys a greater sense of tension in the nuanced light, subtle but respirating in a low hum of Midwestern energy.”

Lenny averages 10 art shows in the Mid-west May through November. His art is the collections of:
-Northwestern Mutual Life- Milwaukee, Wi.
-Aspirus Hospital- Wausau, WI.
-Kimberley-Clark Corp.-Neenah, Wi.
-Plexus Corp.-Neenah, WI.
-Appleton Medical Center-Appleton, Wi.
-Door County Hospital-Sturgeon Bay, WI.
-Sparta Hospital-Sparta-Wi.

Joining Lenny is Richard who retired in 2009 following a 30 year career teaching art at Altoona High School in West Central Wisconsin. Teaching was immensely gratifying, but like a plumber with plugged pipes, or the roofer with a leaky roof, the last thing on his mind following an artful day in the classroom, was more art. So, he became an artist in his mind. Now things have changed, and he has time and energy to act out his creative desires in his studio at “Banbury Place” in downtown Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Richard’s work is sold at art festivals in Wisconsin, throughout the Midwest, and as far away as Florida. He submits pieces to regional, juried art exhibits, while this is his third “gallery show” in the past several months. Exhibits at the “Janet Carson Gallery”, and “200 Main” in Eau Claire are his most recent two person exhibits.

“Richard is in a good place with a life that is well balanced between work and play. He has a wonderful family, great friends, a positive outlook on life, and is enjoying the fruits of creativity once again.”

The exhibit will continue through February 20, 2018. The artists will be present, and refreshments will be served.

The Alexander House is open from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday or by special appointment Parking is allowed on Wisconsin River Drive on opening nights. For more information, check out their website at alexanderhouseonline.org.

Alexander House is located at 1131 Wisconsin River Dr., Port Edwards.
