2018 DAR Good Citizen Award Winners for Ah Da Wah Gam Chapter Announced

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens program and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship. The program is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited by their state board of education. United States citizenship is not required.
The students selected as the school’s DAR Good Citizen must have the following qualities:
- Dependability (truthfulness, honesty, punctuality, etc.)
- Service (cooperation, helpfulness, responsibility, etc.)
- Leadership (personality, self-control, initiative, etc.)
- Patriotism (unselfish loyalty to American ideals)
Below are the 2018 Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen School Award winners for the Ah Da Wah Gam Wisconsin Rapids Chapter.
Assumption High School
Kelly Rose Schlaefer
Because of the work her family does with foster care, Kelly has become involved with the Children’s Ministry program at her church. She enjoys interacting with the children and building strong relationships with them. Another volunteer opportunity Kelly enjoys is working at the McMillian Library. She believes that her mission is to help others and plans to attend the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point to major in Biology. She would ultimately like to go into the medical field. Kelly believes that she will continue to make a difference in
the lives of those around her.
John Edwards High School
Abigail Hutkowski
Abigail has enjoyed being a leader at her school by holding officer positions in Student Council, National Honor Society and the Ecology Club. “Within my leadership skills, I also try to lead by example,” Abigail states. “One way for me to do this is volunteering as much as I do. Volunteering plays a huge role in my life”. Abigail enjoys volunteering at Jeremiah’s Crossing and Renaissance Assisted Living.
Abigail also enjoys sports and is also a dedicated athlete. She has been a member of the basketball, volleyball and softball teams at JEHS for all four of her high school years. After graduation, Abigail would like to become a physical therapist.
Lincoln High School
Jacob Mancl
Jacob finds it very important to be actively involved, which is why he has chosen to be heavily involved in co-curricular activities at Lincoln. Jacob have been fortunate enough to be a part of the football and baseball team the past 4 years, as well as serving as the Rapids DECA chapter president, and taking part in a variety of other clubs. When he is not taking part in school activities, he likes to spend his time with close friends and family, as well as spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing.
Necedah High School
Miles Saylor
Miles enjoys athletics and has played football, basketball and baseball at Necedah High School. Because of his love of sports, he likes to volunteer with youth athletics. “The greatest lesson that I’ve learned through my volunteering experiences is that I can impact others, “ states Miles. He believes his interactions with the children will help him in his chosen field of pediatric medicine. Miles also has interests outside of athletics. Miles was his school’s representative at Badger Boys last summer and is a member of NHS Student Council, National Honors Society and Youth Apprentice IT program.
Nekoosa High School
Joel Joslin
Joel has always been interested in technology and plans to pursue a degree in Data Science in the fall at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. He has used his skills in technology to become the Media Coordinator at his church to gain real world experience. Joel also enjoys getting away from the computer and playing golf and soccer. He has been on the varsity golf team during his tenure at NHS and has used that skill to become a Caddy at the Sand Valley Golf Resort. His love of soccer has allowed him to referee competitive soccer games. Joel has been recognized for his leadership skills by being selected as Teen Leader through the Incourage program during his sophomore year and was selected to be a representative for NHS at Badger Boys last summer.
Pittsville High School
Heather Schubert
Heather is known as a leader in her high school and is sought out by school officials as a representative of the students. Recently, she was selected to be on a Student Steering Committee by the district’s superintendent. Her leadership skills have been valuable as a representative of Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honors Society. She also enjoys being part of the Cheer Team and Pep Band. Heather is planning on attending a university in Wisconsin to pursue a degree in biology and a minor in Spanish.
