STEVENS POINT — The Riverkings flight for the USPHL Winter Boston Showcase was cancelled due to extreme weather. However, in true Riverking culture of turning a negative into a positive, the players had the opportunity to watch former Riverkings goalie, Sam Nelson and his Concordia University (Morehead) take on NCAA D3 nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point.

Sam Nelson makes a save against the Pointers on Friday night.

The Cobras played a great game and Sam was strong in net and almost help lead his school to a major upset versus the Pointers, but came up one goal short losing 3-2 at the K.B. Willett Arena.

Sam played for the Riverkings 2015-16 before heading to Concordia. Last season Sam was a freshman, but exceeded all expectations as he was awarded first team MIAC and goalie of the year. The Riverkings players came out to support their former teammate and had a chance to see a NCAA game.

Your Riverkings return to USPHL action next weekend at home as they welcome the Dells Ducks at the South Wood County Recreation Center, 2711 16th St. South on Jan. 12 and 13 (Friday and Saturday). Puck drops at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
