United Way of Inner Wisconsin Volunteer Opportunity Column for Jan. 10

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — One of the goals of United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center is to recruit and match volunteers for non-profit organizations needing your help in south Wood and Adams Counties.  The following are this week’s volunteer opportunities.

United Way of Inner Wisconsin: Volunteers are needed for a Homeless Point-in-Time (PIT) Count that will be held Jan. 31, 2018 from 11pm to 3am.  Volunteers will be assigned an area in south Wood County and will travel in groups of 3-4.  Volunteers will conduct interviews with participating homeless people and offering information about resources that can help.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.  Volunteers do not need any related skills but will be required to attend a training (Jan. 31 at 10:30pm); and will need to fill out an application.  There will be walking and volunteers may need to provide his/her own transportation for the group.  Volunteers need to dress appropriately for the weather and bring along a flash light.  Vest and any other supplies will be provided.  Volunteers who are interested should contact United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center at 715-421-0390 or send an email to [email protected].

McMillan Memorial Library- Media/Maker Studio Mentor: Responsibilities: We are looking for local makers, crafts people and techies to share their skills with the community by volunteering to help instruct participants in various creative endeavors. Our space houses materials for sewing, 3d printing, electronics, photography, sound recording, video and animation. If you have skills, we want your help! Come share your expertise with the community. Skills and Experience: Deep experience with the field you wish to mentor and the ability to passing on skills to others. Instructional experience welcomed but not required.

Lowell Center– Tax Aide: In this job you will be preparing taxes and answering questions. You will also be e-filing taxes, when requested. This job is once or twice a week for four to eight hours over a 2 1/2 month period.  Training will be provided.  You can choose your own schedule, if necessary.

Tax Program Client Facilitator: This job would be one or two times a week for 5-6 hours over a 2 1/2 month period. During this time you will be screening tax clients, preparing papers for their tax appointment, and assigning them to appropriate Tax Aides.  Training will be provided.

Tax Program Greeter/Receptionist: This volunteer position would be for once or twice a week for 5-6 hours over a 2 1/2 month period. In this job you will be greeting and directing clients to the registration table, having them sign in, and help get them started with their tax preparation appointment.
