WISCONSIN RAPIDS — An arrest warrant has been issued for a 35-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man, after abusing a judge-granted furlough.

According to police reports filed on Jan. 5, on Oct. 13, a deputy was contact by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department regarding a missing inmate. Upon a conviction of misdemeanor theft, Christopher Sparks was to report to jail on Aug. 23, 2017. Due to a family medical issue, Sparks requested furlough before his time served, which was granted by Judge Brazeau for 45 days.

However, upon his ordered return to jail on Oct. 9, Sparks never showed up. Attempts to contact his fiance, and other friends and family on his whereabouts were not successful. His initial time to be served in jail was to be 18 months, which could now be up to six years if convicted.

If you have any information on the defendant’s whereabouts, please call 715-421-8700.
