WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Outscoring their rivals 12-2 over the weekend, the Riverkings picked up a series sweep of the Dells Ducks on Friday and Saturday.

Friday Night

The Riverkings opened up their series with a 7-0 route of the Dells Ducks on Friday night.

Special teams played a role, as the Riverkings went 3-8 on the Power-Play and went a perfect 6-6 on the Penalty-Kill. Ryan Mantz put the Riverkings on the board six minutes into the first period scoring on the Power-Play with assists going to Brett Delaat and Jacob Gaydos. Later in the first period Jesse Edwards made it 2-0, scoring off a rebound. Delaat and Gaydos picked up the helpers on goal two.

The second period saw the Riverkings record two more goals as Alexander Mavrogaiannis made it 3-0. Austyn Quarters and Raymond Fleming picked up the helpers. The Riverkings fourth goal came off the stick of Gaydos with Zach Curry and Delaat getting the assists.

The third period started with two Power-Play goals as Cole Creger made it 5-0 with Quarters and Mavrogaiannis  recording assists. Adam Peterson netted the Riverkings final two goals one coming on the Power-Play as Tommy McManus and Fleming, as well as Quarters and Mavrogaiannis got the helpers on the goals.

The Riverkings outshot the Ducks 43-11 on the night, as goaltender Erik Schuette was stellar all night long picking up the shut out.

Saturday Night

Saturday night witnessed a similar story told, as the Riverkings continued their dominant weekend with a 5-2 win over the Ducks to complete the sweep, and improve to 22-7-1 on the season.

The first period was a scoreless one, as the Riverkings outshot the Ducks 12-5 but could not find the back of the net. The penalty kill was tested twice in the first 20 minutes and went a perfect 2-2. Just 57 seconds into the second period the Riverkings struck on the Power-Play as Jacob Gaydos found paydirt with Ryan Mantz picking up the assist.

Late in the second period the Power-Play struck again as Rich Young found the back of the net with Jesse Edwards and Zach Curry grabbing the assists. In the third period the Ducks would cut the lead to 2-1 as they scored 32 seconds into the period.

The Riverkings would regain a two goal lead as Alexander Mavrogaiannis struck on the Power-Play with Brett Delaat and Austyn Quarters picking up the helpers to make it 3-1. The Ducks would cut the Riverkings lead to 3-2, however, 20 seconds later Adam Peterson made it 4-2 as he scored on a breakaway with Mavrogaiannis and Quarters recording the assists.

Dells would make one final push as they pulled their goalie but it was Quarters who would seal the deal making it 5-2 Riverkings.

Parker Rutherford picked up the win in the crease as he was rock solid all night long recording 19 saves on the night. The Riverkings return to action Jan. 20-21 as they travel to take on the Ironwood Fighting Yoopers for a Saturday and Sunday slate.
