Riverkings Slide Into Second Place with Win Over Minnesota

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings Hockey Club moved into a tie for second place in the USPHL Premier Midwest division with a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Mullets on Tuesday afternoon.
The win concluded a tough stretch in the Riverkings schedule that seen them play eight games in 11 days. During the 8-game span the Riverkings compiled a 6-2 record and clinched home ice for at least the first round of the playoffs. The Riverkings got on the board early in the first period as Cole Creger made it 1-0 with assists going to Dylan Nurse and Al Mcphee. Matyas Kacirek would make it 2-0 Riverkings as he lit the lamp late in the first period with Austyn Quarters and Adam Peterson grabbing the helpers.
Just like the first period, the second period began with the Riverkings scoring early. Xander Mavrogiannis scored to make it 3-0 with the Peterson and Tom McManus getting credit for the assists. The third period saw the Riverkings kill off two Mullet Power-Play attempts before icing the game away with an empty goal coming off of the stick of Peterson with Kacirek and Brett Delaat grabbing the two assists to make it a 4-0 final.
Goaltender Erik Schuette picked up the win in the crease stopping all of the 27 shots he faced to pick up his fourth shutout. The Riverkings return to action Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10, as they travel to take on the Dells Ducks. Puck drop for both games is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
