WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Police are investigating an incident on Saturday afternoon which has left one man dead and another in custody.

According to reports, at approximately 1:00 p.m., EMS and police responded to an incident at the Higher Grounds Bakery, 4231 Eighth St. South.

Upon arrival, officers observed a deceased male, and a subject has been taken into custody to be held at the Wood County Jail. The Wisconsin State Crime Lab, Division of Criminal Investigation and State Patrol are assisting with the investigation.

According to Detective Julie Buerger, this is believed to be an isolated incident and is not connected in any way to an incident last weekend in the 1500 Block of Chestnut Street.

“We do not believe the public is in any danger at this time and all parties involved are known to each other.”

The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department is not releasing any further details regarding the deceased male pending further notification of family members.
