Samoset Council Scouts Readies for Food Drive in April

For the City Times
CENTRAL WISCONSIN — Each year, the Boy Scouts of America partners with local food pantries to provide much needed food to the less fortunate. According to the US Government, nearly 47 million Americans live in poverty. One in seven households struggle to feed their family. The need has never been greater.
Samoset Council Scouts will spend two weekends canvasing their neighborhoods collecting bags of food from the community to help fill the shelves of local food pantries. Samoset Council partners with over 50 food pantries in 13 counties and collects 60 tons of food annually. This project helps fill a tremendous need and teaches our Scouts the importance of giving back to their community.
Scouts will be distributing Samoset Council branded, yellow grocery bags (graciously donated by Trig’s) on the front doors of houses in residential neighborhoods on Saturday, April 14th. The goal is to have every bag be filled with(non-expired) non-perishable food items and then placed outside of their front doors by 9:00am on
Saturday, April 21st so the Scouts can pick up each donation swiftly and effectively. Suggested Non-perishable items: Soup, dry pasta, dry mixes, canned foods, boxed food, flour and sugar.
