WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Mead Elementary Charter School is being recognized by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as a 2017-18 “Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition” for their success in educating students.
As a “Beating-the-Odds” school, Mead Elementary services a significant number of students from low-income families and has met the state-required test participation and attendance criteria as well as having above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels.
State Superintendent Tony Evers complimented the schools being recognized stating, “The state’s Title I Schools of Recognition awards recognize the efforts of students, their families, teachers, school administrators, and school staff members to break the link between poverty and low academic achievement. Their success is something to celebrate.”
As one of the 135 award recipients, representatives from Mead Elementary will be honored during a May 21 ceremony at the State Capitol.
“This award publicly highlights the hard work and dedication of the staff and students of Mead Elementary Charter School,” stated WRPS Superintendent Craig Broeren. “It is particularly fitting that Mead is recognized for this work in the light of Principal Margie Dorshorst’s retirement this year after serving as Mead’s Principal for the past 16 years. Congratulations to Mead’s staff and students.”
