Rafters fall to bombers

For the Rapids City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Battle Creek Bombers struck first, scoring seven runs through seven before the Rafters could plate a run of their own, falling 8-1, on June 6 at home.
The cranberry and gold got on the board in the seventh off an RBI groundout from Josh Campbell (Stephen F. Austin) which plated Bret Fehr (SIU Edwardsville) from third. The Rafter were able to get runners in scoring position in several innings, but the Bombers gloves were just a bit quicker on the draw. Wisconsin Rapids outhit Battle Creek nine hits to seven but just could not collect the hit to send runners home.
Bobby Dorta earned the loss, his first of the year. Mike McCraith earned his first win of the season for Battle Creek. He threw scoreless six innings while allowing seven of nine Rafters hits.
The cranberry and gold are back at Witter Field against the Bombers on June 7. LHP Ryan Byrd (1-0, 0.00) will go for the Rafters while the Bombers will counter with RHP Walter Talcott (1-0, 1.80).
