MARSHFIELD – Area fire crews responded to a structure fire the evening of July 4. The building was used as an auto body repair shop and residence.

The Vesper Fire Department was dispatched at 9:30 p.m. to the fire on Grant Road in the Wood County town of Hansen.

Upon arrival, crews discovered a 3,000 square-foot building with heavy smoke and fire throughout the entire structure.

The blaze resulted in extensive damage to the structure and its contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Vesper Fire Department was assisted by crews from Arpin, Richfield, and Rudolph.

Property owners Greg Plawman and Sarah Schmoll and their four children are being assisted by the Red Cross. There were no injuries.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately four hours.
