For the Rapids City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (16-20, 1-0 second half) weathered the storm after Green Bay (12-25, 0-1 second half) plated five in the first by dropping eleven on the Bullfrogs, winning by a final of 11-7.

Green Bay came out swinging for the fences against the Rafters, scoring five runs on six hits. The Rafters answered in their second scoring twice from wild pitches thrown by Green Bay starter Will Shirah. The cranberry and gold took the lead in the third and never looked back. After Wisconsin Rapids loaded the bases, Jack-Thomas Wold (UNLV) worked a bases-loaded walk. Jake Dunham (Northern Illinois) delivered an RBI base hit, Mitch Mallek (St. Cloud State) brought in another with a sac fly to center, and Payton Robertson (Louisiana State Shreveport) came through with the go-ahead, two-run single to give the Rafters the lead 7-5 after three innings.

Wisconsin Rapids tacked on four more runs throughout the rest of the game. RBI singles from Brody Woffrd (UCF) and Ty Duvall (Vanderbilt) brought in two in the sixth. Two more wild pitches from Green Bay hurlers allowed a run crossing home plate in the seventh and eighth. The Bullfrogs scored twice in the ninth off two errors from the Rafters, but Wisconsin Rapids held on for the 11-7 win.

Gareth Stroh (2-1, 3.33 ERA) earned his second win of the year. Will Shirah (1-2, 8.36 ERA) suffered the loss, allowing six runs in two innings.
