Photography and sculpture to highlight new Alexander House exhibit

For the Rapids City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The creations of Dave Miess and Jamison Glisczinski will be featured in the upcoming Alexander House exhibit, opening July 20.

Dave Miess is a nature photographer based out of Oregon. Miess first put an eye behind a lens over 40 years ago and merged his passion with the outdoors and photography about 20 years ago. Dave has seen the evolution of photography – from his start working with black and white film in a darkroom, through slide film to the latest in digital technology.

Dave’s work has been seen in numerous publications, and he has won multiple awards for his work. While he does shoot around the country, he tries to focus on his regional home – the Upper Great Lakes

Jamison Glisczinski currently resides in Neenah, and has been a life-long resident of the Fox Valley. He has been interested in art and creating since he was a child. Growing up, his family made sure he always had something to draw on or build with.

“It was great to have the support of people who let me systematically make a huge mess and destroy perfectly good things to satisfy my creativity,” Glisczinski said.

Jamison was also fortunate to attend art classes at the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah and take other art classes as his schedule would allow. He also studied Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he began exploring both functional work – such as furniture, lighting, and doors – and traditional artwork.

Jamison works primarily in steel, ceramics, wood, and mixed media. He creates both figurative and abstract sculpture for indoor and outdoor settings, and builds custom wood, glass, and steel furniture, as well as other functional pieces. Jamison also works in oil paint, acrylic paint, ink, and charcoal.

An opening reception will be held July 20, 5-8 p.m.

The exhibit runs through Sept. 4. The Alexander House, 1131 Wisconsin River Dr., Port Edwards, is open from 1-4 p.m., Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, or by special appointment.
