Walk off hit by pitch gives Rafters third-straight win

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (25-29, 10-9 second half) came out on top over the Lakeshore Chinooks (25-29, 9-10 second half) in a back-and-forth game. The Rafters earned their second walk-off win of the season as Alex Fedje-Johnson (Davidson) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the winning run from third base.
Lakeshore started the scoring in the first. An RBI sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout brought home the first two runs for the Chinooks. The Rafters answered back in the fourth, scoring three runs on three hits. Jake Dunham (Northern Illinois) went yard for the first time this season to jumpstart the Rafters’ offense. Fedje-Johnson brought in a run with a base hit to left and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2 Rafters after four.
The Chinooks started building a picket fence scoring one run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth frames. Griffin Dey tied the game at three apiece with a double in the sixth. Both teams scored in the seventh. Lakeshore took a momentary lead with an RBI sac fly from Jack Dunn before the Rafters tied it back up at four with a base hit from Ethan Stringer (Louisville). In the eighth, the Chinooks scored on an error to take a one run lead 5-4.
Down by one in the ninth, the Rafters would load the bases with one out. Bret Fehr (SIU Edwardsville) brought in the tying run with a bases-loaded walk. Down to their final out, Alex Fedje-Johnson was hit by a pitch with bases still loaded to walk it off 6-5.
Hunter Waldis (1-0, 2.95) was given the win pitching the eighth and ninth innings. Nick Campe (2-3, 5.04 ERA) suffered the loss allowing the walk-off.
