WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A 25-year-old Arpin man was charged with disorderly conduct in Wood County Court following a bomb scare in the town of Rudolph.

On July 26, at approximately 10:13 a.m., Wood County Dispatch received a call of a suspicious item placed on the roadway with a threatening message on Fifth Avenue North, one mile north of State Highway 34 in the town of Rudolph.

According to the criminal complaint, when Wood County officers arrived they found a bright green t-shirt covering a package. Written on the shirt was “Wood Co WRPD PS I don’t like threats either.”

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Departments Bomb Squad was requested and responded to the scene. During inspection of the item, Fifth Avenue North was closed down for a few hours until the suspicious item was rendered safe, without incident.

Court reports show that the bomb squad found a backpack under the shirt containing traffic citations written out to the Arpin man, along with a marriage license, a diploma, and note stating that the suspect would not harm anyone.

Upon questioning, the Arpin man said that he was not planning to hurt anyone. His next court appearance is Sept. 28.

The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, United Ambulance, and the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the matter.
