Letters to the Editor: Wood County residents write in support of Joosten
Dear editor,
I am writing to you to acknowledge the fact that (Ms. Joosten has) been a very competent and professional Clerk of Courts for the last 20 years that (Joosten has) been in charge of that office.
(Joosten and her) staff have done a very good job of keeping up with the ever-increasing case load that has occurred over the last 20 years. (Joosten has) also adopted and incorporated into (the) administration all of the new technical changes that (she has) been called upon to add to the operation of the Clerk of Courts office.
The citizens of Wood County have been well served by (her) efforts and I would hope that (she) can continue to perform the job of Wood County Clerk of Courts in the future.

Dear editor,
This is the first time in my life I’ve had campaign signs in my yard! In my former life as the Wood County clerk, I didn’t feel it was appropriate to openly endorse one candidate over another.
Now that I’m retired, I’m thrilled to be able to tell anyone who will listen that Cindy Joosten is a professional woman who has served the county proudly.
I’ve personally witnessed her job understanding and competence.
Vote Cindy Joosten on Aug. 14 for Clerk of Courts.
Cindy Cepress
Wood County Clerk – Retired
Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Dear editor,
Cindy Joosten has admirably and effectively served the residents of Wood County as their Clerk of Courts for the past 20 years. She has been instrumental in modernizing systems and introducing new programs, which have assisted in improving the cost effectiveness, operation, and overall success of the Wood County Court System.
Cindy has been recognized by her peers across the state for her extensive job knowledge, abilities, demeanor, and professionalism in the performance of the duties required of the position. As a result of that respect, Cindy has been elected as an officer within her own professional organization on numerous occasions.
She has also been selected as a WCCCA representative to the Wisconsin Counties Association Board of Directors as a direct result of the experience and leadership she has exhibited in her profession.
I endorse her re-election to the office of Wood County Clerk of Circuit Court.
Respectfully,
Lance Pliml
Wood County Board Supervisor District 16
President – Wisconsin Counties Association
Dear editor,
The Office Clerk of Courts is not just a job you seek because you want an elected position. The Clerks position is a passion you develop for efficiency, decorum and record keeping. A passion Cindy developed by spending eight years in the Clerk of Court’s office as accountant prior to successfully winning the position as Clerk of Courts 20 years ago.
Cindy’s chairmanship of the Clerk Professional Development Committee establishes programming to train clerk’s throughout the state. Cindy also serves as a mentor for clerks throughout the state. Due to experience and efficiency, Cindy’s office was chosen as a project site to implement mandatory paperless E-filing of court documents, now sweeping the state. Cindy is a member of the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Counties Association, the foremost voice and interactive service provider for all county boards in the state.
As the retired Chief Deputy of the Wood County Sheriff’s Office, with 32 years of service, 16 years’ experience as criminal investigator, and the last seven years of my career as Chief Deputy, I believe it is vitally important to point out that the head of the department that administers to the courts and safely files, keeps and maintains the confidentiality of search warrants, their results, legal documents and criminal process is extremely important, if not mandatory, that it is conducted by someone experienced with the process as well as dedicated and character driven.
Some reading this endorsement who don’t know me personally will believe I may be prejudiced to the candidate. They would be right, I am, but only for the issues that are germane to this position, experience, trust worthiness, integrity and attention to detail. Those who do know me, I believe, concur with my judgment.
Experience matters! Re-elect Cindy Joosten Clerk of Circuit Courts Aug. 14.
David J. Joosten
Chief Deputy Wood County Sheriff-Retired
Dear editor,
My name is Terry Rickaby. I was Maintenance Coordinator for Wood County. I worked with Cindy for almost 25 years, Cindy was always very professional and very dedicated to the Clerk of Courts department. Cindy has made many changes for the better in her Department.
I’m hearing rumors that Cindy wasn’t at work a lot. That’s far from the truth. Many days Cindy came in early and went home late, these rumors need to stop. The County has key card access to the building. All doors are locked except for the front door, if more than one employee arrive at the door together only one person needs to use their card, or if you come in the front door you can just walk in, and if you have a key to the office you can just unlock the door.
So in short there is really no accurate way to say if someone was at work or not.
The county also has camera’s on all floors, the problem is these start to over write after so many events what I’m saying if you start in June; July and August, probably sometime in August or September it starts to over write starting with June’s first events, to run those cameras that’s a very lengthy process.
Cindy, as the retired Maintenance Coordinator for Wood County and Chairman for the Town of Saratoga you have my vote, because I know the truth. Cindy it was a pleasure working for your department and working with you.

Dear editor,
While now living in Plover, Shirley and I still have close ties to family and friends living in Wood County, especially Wisconsin Rapids and Pittsville. The Red Ravens and Wayne Ashenberg Orchestra were blessed making friends playing for weddings and anniversaries “in the day.” We met Cindy and her husband Dave, along with her parents, during our musician days.
An informed voter should consider her Chairmanship of the Clerk Professional Development Committee and representation on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Counties Association. Committee chairmanships and Board representatives should be selected based on their professionalism, along with recognition of their leadership style and work contributions. Cindy’s recognition in these positions speaks for itself.
We encourage Wood County voters to maintain the current quality of your Clerk of Courts – vote Cindy Joosten on Aug. 14.
