LINWOOD — A fatal accident in Linwood, Portage County, has claimed the life of a 73-year-old Marshfield man.

On Aug. 28, at approximately 7:23 a.m., a one-car accident was reported in the town of Linwood on Highway 66 a tenth of a mile west of County Highway PP. Deputies arrived to find Dennis Hetchler unresponsive, and despite lifesaving measures he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hetchler’s PT Cruiser apparently approached a curve on the roadway, left the paved portion, and entered the north ditch where it struck the side of a driveway.

Assisting at the scene was the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Rudolph Fire and EMS Department

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
