Husband of local victim to speak

WISCONSIN RAPIDS ­– The husband of a victim killed due to domestic violence in 2017 will be the guest speaker at The Wisconsin Rapids Family Center’s third annual “Remember My Name” event, in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Bob Look, who lost his wife, Dianne, 67, during a domestic violence-related shooting in Weston in 2017, will share his thoughts during the event. Dianne Look, Karen Barclay, Sara Quirt Sann, and Jason Weiland – died March 22, 2017, in Marathon County. The shooter, Nengmy Vang, later died from injuries sustained during a standoff with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department and Everest Metro Police Department. Vang wanted his wife to sign divorce papers within 24 hours, or he would kill her. Look and Barclay were Naly Vang’s co-workers, Sann was her lawyer, and Weiland was an officer responding to the scene.

Look will speak about how lethal domestic violence can be, and how lives can be changed in an instant due to this violence.

“Certainly, to have somebody that was that directly impacted by a domestic violence homicide will be profound,” said Sue Sippel, executive director of The Family Center.

End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, will release its annual report on the domestic-related homicides in 2017 on Oct. 1. Victims named in the report will be remembered as part of the “Remember My Name” event at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 at First Congregational Church-UCC, 311 Second St. South, Wisconsin Rapids. “Remember My Name” is an opportunity to remember the victims as individuals, not statistics.

In addition to the remembrance of victims, The Family Center also will recognize community members and business who have shown outstanding support of The Family Center and its mission during the hour-long event.
