Wisconsin Rapids man convicted in death of son

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A Wisconsin Rapids man has been convicted of a lesser charge in the death of his 15-month-old son. James L. Georgeson, 33, had been charged with first-degree reckless homicide. He entered a “no contest” plea and was found guilty of second-degree reckless homicide.
A criminal complaint said Georgeson beat his son after the child dropped a sippy cup and spilled his milk.
Georgeson initially told police he called 911 when the child had trouble breathing during a nap. Doctors at the Marshfield Medical Center said the boy had bruising on his forehead and around his eye from blunt force trauma and was unconscious when he arrived at the emergency room in February 2017. The child later died from internal bleeding around his brain.
Georgeson is scheduled for sentencing Dec. 14. The Wood County District Attorney says he will argue for the maximum 17 years in prison.
