Pittsville fire station vandalized

MARSHFIELD – Investigators have no leads in an act of vandalism that did $2,000 worth of damage at the Pittsville Fire Station.
Pittsville Fire Chief said the damage to a rooftop furnace over the department’s meeting room was discovered Oct. 24.
“Vandals got to the roof most likely via our radio tower then proceeded to try and do damage by attempting to pull the natural gas lines out of the furnace,” Pittsville Chief Jerry Minor said. “This act caused at least $2,000 worth of damage to the unit.
“Fortunately when the furnace tried to ignite, the fire that it caused inside the furnace burnt off control wires that shut the unit down (Thank God) or a roof top fire would have followed. We also found the radio tower anchor rods that secure it to the building had been tampered with.
“Pittsville Police and Crime stoppers haven’t reported any leads at this time.”
