For the Rapids City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College alumnus and Foundation board member Larry Turba has earned statewide recognition for his contributions to technical education and the central Wisconsin community. Turba recently received the 2018 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association during the fall quarterly meeting of the District Boards Association in Appleton.
The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes a truly outstanding Wisconsin Technical College graduate who has demonstrated accomplishments in his or her professional field, community involvement, support for the technical college system and a commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning.
Turba, now president and CEO of Paper City Savings in Nekoosa, started his career at the company as an accountant in 1978 with an associate degree from Mid-State. Among the achievements highlighted in his award nomination were Turba’s commitment to continuing education and his ability to move into roles of increasing responsibility that ultimately helped grow the company from just five employees to 47 across three branches.
Turba was also credited for his 34 years of service on both the Mid-State Technical College Board and the Foundation, as well as an impressive legacy of community service and ongoing confidence in Mid-State Technical College graduates who also got their start at Paper City Savings over the years.
