Port Edwards girls get second conference win

PORT EDWARDS – On Dec. 7, the Port Edwards girls basketball team hosted a tough conference opponent in the Wild Rose Wildcats. Port Edwards came out on top 65-57.

In a foul ridden game, where there were a total of 75 free throws shot between the two teams. Port held the edge most of the night, shooting 44 free throws.  At the half, the Blackhawks were up 33-25.

Leading the way for the Blackhawks was Kaitlyn Lyp with 22 points – 14 of those coming from the charity stripe.  Jade Martin added 14 points, Krystal Rzepka chipped in 11 points, along with 9 points from Brynna Hawk. Kara Rzepka and Taylor Martin scored five points and four points, respectively.  The Blackhawks connected on two 3-pointers, both by J. Martin, and were 27 for 44 from the free throw line.

Addy Lautizen led the Wildcats in scoring with 20 points, with Anna Caswell and Rachel Strey each adding 12 and 11 points, respectively.  Abby Erickson had four, Candice Milne and Torrance Marzquez each added three points, while Marissa Cartwright and Maia Vanderwerff each had two points. Wild Rose had three 3-pointers – one each from Lauritzen, Milne, and Marquez – and was 14 for 31 from the line.

The win brings the Blackhawks overall record to 3-3, 2-0 conference.
