WISCONSIN RAPIDS – On Dec. 4, Assumption High School handed out St. Michael the Archangel medals to eight police officers and two firefighters, and provided 35 medals for the remaining firefighters and police officers in the Wisconsin Rapids departments.

St. Michael the Archangel medals are known as a symbol of protection. The medals were given by Assumption to help protect the men and women who serve the community and were donated by a friend of Joseph Rayles – Assumption physical education teacher.

This presentation of St. Michael the Archangel medals originated in Milwaukee by a concerned citizen, after a police officer was injured during a routine traffic stop. This story served as an inspiration for Assumption who wanted to recognize the departments for their service.
